Match report: Aston Villa vs Manchester United

The only pre-season game this season ended with a 1-0 loss. Not much to worry about considering Aston Villa played at full strength while United chose to give game time to fringe players. The only players of the regular starting 11 were Rashford, Maguire and possibly new singing Donny Van de Beek.

Overall it was a quite equal game. Both sides had chances but couldn't make much of it. Manchester United were better in the first half while Aston Villa imposed themselves in the second. In the end, Aston Villa won by the only goal coming from new signing Ollie Watkins who arrived from Brentford.

Ollie Watkins scored a headed goal into the back of an open net from a decent cross, after the defenders failed to pick him up and got caught napping. Harry Maguire would be to blame if anyone should be assigned it but it was a pre-season game and we can just hope that it isn't anything regular after a hard summer for him.

Manchester United had a few good chances too but couldn't make anything off it and wasn't of the best quality anyways, after all, their two best creative players Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes were absent from the game. Van de Beek was constantly getting into goalscoring positions although he didn't get many services from the players around him so couldn't get even a shot on goal.

It's onto Crystal Palace at home in a week's time. They beat us last time 1-2 but hopefully it'll be a different outcome this time with Bruno Fernandes and Van de Beek with us.
