Brighton pay for missed chances

Brighton and Hove Albion 2 - 3 Manchester United

A game that had it all! Goals, drama and a lot of VAR. Manchester United came out on top but it was hardly served after Brighton hit the woodwork an astonishing 5 times! A 100th-minute penalty from Bruno Fernandes sealed the win in an extraordinary fashion.

Brighton started the game brightly while United were looking tired like at Crystal Palace. It didn't take long for Brighton to get their deserved goal. After Brighton midfield Trossard hit the post twice, he placed a fantastic line-breaking pass to Lamptey. Bruno Fernandes was over-eager to get the ball and pushed over the left-back to try winning the ball. A penalty was awarded immediately and Neal Maupay chipped the ball over David de Gea who dived early.

Although Brighton continued to threaten, it was United who pulled a goal back just before half-time. Bruno Fernandes whipped in a dangerous ball from a free-kick, Matic found it as the far pole and slipped it to Maguire who flicked it into the goal. Lewis Dunk seemed to also get a touch on the ball and therefore the goal was not awarded to Harry Maguire.

Manchester United came into the second-half with determination and were out to grab the lead which they did, thanks to the skill of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes. A fantastic 40 yard through ball found Marcus Rashford who produced dazzling skill to weave through the Brighton defence and smash it with his left foot into the back of the net.

You'd have thought that Manchester United would comfortably build on their game but instead, Brighton came out looking for revenge. Chance upon chance fell their way as United left their right-hand side open with Wan-Bissaka nowhere to be seen. After hitting the pole another two times but Brighton finally equalised through Solly March who headed it into an open net. Game over? Draw? No!

There was still drama left in the game. Late into the game, corner awarded to Manchester United. Harry Maguire met the oncoming ball and it had to be cleared off the line! The referee blew the whistle for full time but had to go back to consult VAR after player appealed for a handball. And indeed it deflected off Neal Maupay's arm.

Bruno Fernandes to take it! And no disappointment as he scored with no hesitation! 3-2 win for United. Lots to celebrate but lots to be concerned about too. Ole's got a big task on his hand in the upcoming weeks.
